Elementary Program K-4

Our elementary program offers Montessori curriculum coupled with a deep commitment to peace education and authentic learning experiences. We foster and celebrate children’s development of personal interests and love of discovery.

Curriculum

The Montessori Method

The Montessori Method is an educational philosophy of education with an emphasis on independence, freedom within limits, discovery, and developmentally appropriate learning activities.  The method is based on a profound respect for all aspects of a child’s cognitive, academic, psychological, physical, and social development. Montessori schools seek to create learning environments where discovery and interest help guide the learning process.

Having a Montessori foundation influences the entire school.

Peace Initiative

Walden believes that one of the greatest gifts we can give children is to live peaceably in the world.

Each classroom is equipped with a "peace corner" - a place where students can emotionally regulate, resolve conflict, and find peace.

As part of this initiative, we study change-makers from history and recognize students who embody the qualities of peace-makers in both the school and the broader community.

Code Walden

STEM Education is an integral part of every classroom at Walden. Elementary students will build a strong Computer Science foundation and develop competencies while participating in an innovative CS integrated studies class we are calling “Code Walden.” They will engage with entry level coding and design while they learn responsible, ethical and transformative uses of technology.

Students will also have the opportunity to participate in “Friday Academies” where they will develop strong foundational skills as they engage in workshops such as Lego Robotics or Code Monkey.
